Total LandCare MalawiTotal LandCare (TLC) is a registered non-governmental organization founded in 1999. With its headquarters in Malawi, TLC is also registered and operating in Mozambique, Tanzania and Zambia. TLC’s mission is to transform the livelihoods of rural households from subsistence to prosperity and self-reliance. Achieving this goal involves building the capacity of organized groups of farmers and cooperatives to integrate sustainable agricultural and natural resource practices with initiatives to strengthen livelihoods and value chains linked to micro-finance and markets. The ultimate aim is to increase farm productivity, diversification, profitability and resilience with lower input costs and sound management of the landscapes for current and future generations.
Total Land Care (TLC) in partnership with Feed the Children has received funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) towards the implementation of the Let Them Grow Healthy Activity (AkulendiThanzi) in the districts of Chitipa, Karonga, Nkhotakota, Salima, Dowa, Lilongwe, Thyolo and Mulanje. AkulendiThanzi) will use a multisectoral nutrition programming approach, as recommended by the Government of Malawi and USAID. The overall goal of the Activity is to improve the health and nutritional status of women and children. The Activity will have an emphasis on the first 1,000-days in the life of a child, from conception through the first two years of life. The technical design of the Activity will build upon the strides made by the previous activities, namely, Tiwalere I and II (both funded by USAID/Malawi), to identify and solve barriers to the uptake of optimal maternal, infant, and young child nutrition and hygiene practices. The program purpose will be achieved through two key results areas (KRAs) – a) nutrition and health, including increasing access to nutritious foods; and b) water and sanitation.
