Job Title: Field Officer, Titukulane Project

Location: Lilongwe Rural

Programme Pillar: Women’s Economic Empowerment

Contract Length: 9 Months (Fixed, With Possible extension depending on perfomance

Expected Start Date: August 2022

Reports to: Programs Manager

Hours of Work: 40 hours Per Week

ABOUT SHAPING OUR FUTURE FOUNDATION

Officially registered on 6th August 2020, Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF)  envisions a holistic citizen empowered for social change through emancipation from a difficult childhood in the village or on the streets. To complement the government’s development, SOFF seeks to ensure that all Malawians, especially rural women and girls, prosper and realize their potential through Women’s Economic Empowerment, Sexual Reproductive Health, Climate SMART Agriculture and Girls Education programmes. SOFF works with government partners, NGOs, community structures, women and girls and all individuals who share the vision of an inclusive and prosperous Malawi.

 POSITION OVERVIEW

Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF) is expanding its programmatic area in economic empowerment through the Titukulane project, funded by the Spark Microgrants. The Titukulane project will support vulnerable women’s groups and ultra-poor villages in hard-to-reach areas to become economically self-reliant and advance girls’ education, health, and community development. Using an innovative model of Facilitated Collective Action Process (FCAP), communities will be led through regular facilitated meetings to organize, conceptualize and implement their economic empowerment project and receive a microgrant to fund it. As a Field Officer for this project, you will work under the direct supervision of the Programmes Manager to contribute to and support the implementation of the Titukulane project by ensuring that the project activities are planned, implemented, and coordinated with key beneficiary groups and adapted to the highest possible standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Project coordination and field implementation – 80%-time commitment

  • Develop monthly project plans and perform project field activities with efficient execution, following project outputs and expected outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the programmes Manager and community leaders to conduct district and community entry meetings.
  • Work closely with the Finance team and Programmes Manager to develop activity budgets, monitor expenditure, and appropriately liquidate funds.
  • Report any variations or problems with the implementation of activities (regarding costs, schedules, technical matters, training attendance for beneficiaries )
  • Ensure transparent implementation of all field-based activities and provide a conducive environment for the community’s suggestions and feedbac
  • Develop and maintain good relationships and lines of communication with relevant local partners, local authorities and communities, explaining the nature of the project and liaising with them throughout the project.

2. Capacity building of targeted groups -10% time commitment

  • Support the development, refining and contextualizing of training materials as needed.
  • Prepare, coordinate and participate in all beneficiary groups’ training using the FCAP training guides.
  • Assess beneficiary knowledge and skills gaps and plan for community-based refresher training as needed.
  • Be a resourceful knowledge and skills hub for beneficiary groups to facilitate knowledge sharing and skills mix.

3. Project monitoring and reporting – 10%-time commitment

  • Prepare monthly progress reports about achieved activities, challenges and suggested solutions or
  • Liaise with M&E Officer to develop and organize all community data, files, and documents.
  • Collect project’s routine data and other information while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
  • Be proactive in providing quality information on case studies and adaptation stories relating to the project to support the preparation of fundraising and advocacy materials.

Note: The description is not exhaustive, and the post holder will be expected to carry out other duties as required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Diploma in Business Administration, Community Development, Agri-business, Economics, or other related fields. A bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
  • Experience in community mobilization and capacity building.
  • 2-3 years of community work experience, preferably related to the type of project ( women’s or community economic empowerment).
  • Excellent skills in monitoring the implementation of program activities.
  • MUST have a valid motorbike licence
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to remote field sites
  • Ability to work under pressure and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication verbally, writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Be conversant with various generic tools such as assessment, survey techniques, and questionnaires.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Chichewa is desirable.
  • Good computer skills
